How to restore your Asus EeePC netbook to factory settings

Posted in: Laptops, Tips and Tricks — October 12th, 2009

The Asus netbooks have an ultra simple and quick factory restore option, I’ve also been surprised, anyone will be able to do so without hassle, no configuration to do.
Restoring is available through a recovery partition, or from the recovery DVD includes a utility for the drivers also (external dvd drive still required). One part will be devoted to restoring from a USB flash drive for those who no longer have the recovery partition, or external DVD drive, but it will still provide the DVD for purchase.
I said all along that this tip is done with a EeePC 1005H, and therefore some things might be slightly different depending on the model.
Do not hesitate to note the differences in the comments for other models by showing this tip.

Disable Boot Booster

The Boot Booster option will remove the bios screen at the netbook startup, which saves some time during the ignition thereof. This option is enabled by default on the purchase.

  • Turn on your netbook normally, and immediately press the F2 key until you reach the Setup Utility, which allows access to the bios options, including Boost Booster.
  • Using the arrow keys, move to the Boot tab, then click the Boot Booster option. Press the Enter key, then turn the option to Disabled to disable it.
  • bootbooster

  • Go to the last tab, Exit, and choose Exit and save changes.

Restore from the Recovery Partition

  • Start your netbook and tap the F9 key on your keyboard until you see a loading screen.
  • The restore program prepares the files needed for the operation.
  • A message appears asking if you want to perform the operation, you will lose all files on your computer.
  • Confirm by clicking .
  • This will restore your netbook to factory settings and without any action on your part. Finally we should rather say the Ghost.
  • At the end of the operation, the netbook will reboot on its own, and finish these configurations.
  • A reboot is performed again, and you’re on the setup process of Windows as the first boot after buying the netbook.

th the AC adaptor, even using it in various countries – always worked fine.
    * Reliable brand – See previous comment. BTW, I priced this exact same model in Taiwan, where they’re made, and it costs about 40% more there! Overall, the fit and finish are great, and it seems to be pretty sturdy. I toted this thing everywhere and ever roughed it up a bit – no problems.
    * Light weight and small size – This was highly important during my travels. Many times I was glad that I’d bought this thing rather than toting the Lenovo laptop around. Such much lighter and smaller, and compared to the Lenovo, its battery is immortal.
    * Reports of good behavior with Windows 7 – My experience has been great so far. XP worked alright, but W7 works even better. Installation wasn’t too painful. I didn’t want to buy an external drive for this Asus, so I set up by HP media computer and this one with the same workgroup name, then shared the DVD drive on the HP, and installed W7 on the Asus using the drive on my HP box. I had a nasty virus on my asus netbook that was toasting everything and creating massive problems. I took it to the “Geek Squad” at Best Buy and they wanted $130 to take the virus off. The other option they said was to purchase an external hard drive ($70) and order a copy of the start up disk from Asus ($30) which they said was a real hassle to do. They also said the computer came with a start up disk, which I do not believe it did. I could not find a start up disk so I was just about to order one when I came upon this piece of AMAZING ADVICE. I have just booted up my computer following the directions and have “0″ problems as I write. THANK YOU SOOO MUCH JABZWEB! I am now on my way to return this external hard drive they suggested I buy. The only bummer is that it completely wipes your computer, but no big deal if you have nothing to lose, which I did not!! I am now installing McAfee antivirus, cheers!!

    Hey,
I just tried this advice but when I get to the F9 part, nothing happens. I too have a nasty virus and I am trying to restore the factory settings to get rid of it. I did the F2 part and turned off the boot booster but after that, agaain, the F9 does nothing. Any suggestions?
