HandBrake is a good software to convert videos, such as DVD to DivX.

Note: It seems that since version 0.9.4, HandBrake does not support most AVI and OGG containers, and no longer supports the Xvid codec.

Linux: download the release candidate of Ubuntu 9.10

The final version of Ubuntu 9.10, aka “Karmic Koala” approaches. Proponents of the Linux distribution may since October 23 download the release candidate. It will not wait very long for the final version, which is scheduled for October 29. Ubuntu 10.04, “Lucid Lynx”, will succeed it in April 2010.

Dell Inspiron Mini 10v Ubuntu Moblin Remix Developer Edition

The Dell Inspiron Mini 10v Ubuntu Moblin Remix Developer Edition was launched at the Intel Developer Forum, this open source project will include a unique user interface specifically focused on the Internet, the activity of social networks and media consumption, this making it the ideal operating system for small screens. The 2.0 version of the project will include lots of new features including the home screen myzone, aggregation of content from social networks like Twitter, last.fm and instant messaging, web browser optimized for the user interface, a media player “zoomable” and an updated connection manager.

Ubuntu 10.04 announced

Mark Shuttleworth has announced the next version of Ubuntu to be launched in April 2010, hence its code 10.04. Its name remains, as always with Ubuntu pretty original, since it is Lucid Lynx. Note also that this version is LTS, that is to say, Long Term Support. The updates will be available for three years for general public release and five years for the server version. Lucid Lynx is entitled to a GUI, revised, but still use Gnome 2.0. While the server version will be optimized for cloud computing and large Web infrastructures.
