How to update your BlackBerry OS

language_deleteIt’s really important to keep your BlackBerry OS up to date to have the latest improvements and features that are provided with the latest versions. Here’s how to update your BlackBerry OS.

  • First, navigate to the BlackBerryForums.com website
  • Then choose your carrier.
  • Choose your BlackBerry smartphone. You can click the link “What does it include” for T-Mobile to view the update improvements. For Verizon Wireless, you will be informed of the latest update, but you can’t know what’s included with the update.
  • Download the software from the carrier and save it to your desktop.
  • Run the install file.
  • Connect your BlackBerry smartphone to your computer via USB. BlackBerry Desktop Manager will inform you that Application Updates are Available.
  • Click Update Now.
  • Finally select only the components you want to update/install. If you don’t use applications like AIM or you don’t need Spanish language support, you can deselect these options to save space.

How to prohibit access to Windows Task Manager

We advise to prohibit the access to the Task Manager especially on a machine accessible to the public.

A user can, for example, use it to interrupt a program or turn off the PC.

- You can block access to the tool by modifying the Windows registry.

- Click the Start button. In the search field, type the command regedit and press Enter.

- In the Windows Registry Editor that appears, scroll down successively the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER, Software, Microsoft, Windows, CurrentVersion, Policies.

- Pull down the Edit menu, New, Key. Type System and press Enter. Now pull down the Edit menu, New, 32-bit DWORD Value.

- Name the new value DisableTaskMgr and double-click it. Enter 1 in the Value Data text box. Click OK and then close the registry.

- Now links to the Task Manager will be grey and a warning will appear when someone tries to access this tool.

How to use your Mac printer on a PC

Your PC running under Windows XP or Vista can easily use the printer connected to your Mac. Here’s how.

From Mac OS X 10.5, pull down the Apple menu and select System Preferences

- In the window that appears, click the File Sharing and check the Printer Sharing box and one that matches the name of your printer.

- Leave your Mac on.

- Then, on your PC, visit the website of Apple

- Download and install Bonjour software for Windows.

- Then, open the Start menu, select the Bonjour folder, and then Bonjour Printer Wizard. Click the Next button in the wizard that appears. Your printer is automatically detected.

- Select it and click Next. The wizard selects the appropriate driver for your printer. If it does not, click Have Disk… and insert the installation CD. Also check Use the default printer.

- Click Next, then Finish. You must leave your Mac on all the time you use the printer with your PC.

How to reduce power consumption of your PC under Windows 7

Windows 7 can analyze the power consumption of your laptop and increase its battery life. First close all programs except which that start when Windows starts.

- Pull down the Start menu. Right-click Command Prompt in the Accessories folder, choose Run as administrator from the menu that appears.

- The Command Prompt window appears.

- Enter powercfg –ENERGY and press Enter. The report generated, called energy-report.html is available at C:\Windows\System32\. It mentioned in particular how the current process requires the more the processor.

- To disable the services and programs not essential, type msconfig in the search box in the Start menu and press Enter. Then uncheck the appropriate boxes in the Start and Services tabs of the System Configuration window. This report may also show some hardware problems more or less complex to solve. A BIOS update for example.
