Google Maps Mobile 3.3 for smartphones under Android

Google has released another update of Google Maps Mobile for its operating system Android. Now users can easily find nearby businesses, through to the feature “What’s nearby”. In addition, there are also Google Labs services that allows to add layers: traffic, satellite, latitude, and transmission lines.

Google Maps Mobile 3.3 is available on Android Market from Google and supports all smartphones under Android Android 1.6/Donut or 2.0/Eclair. Not for smartphones under Android 1.5/Cupcake.

Google Maps Navigation available officially for Android 1.6 Donut

google-maps-navigationGoogle Maps Navigation was available till now (officially at least) only for Android 2.0, and therefore in this case on the Motorola Droid. The free Google GPS mobile software is now available on Android 1.6.

Google has announced the availability on the Android Market for an update of Google Maps which adds the famous Google Maps Navigation feature that will turn your gPhone into a GPS, but is only functional in the U.S. (at least officially).

This update also adds the Layers feature, which lets you add geographic information on the map, such as data from Wikipedia.

Google Maps becomes clearly an app killer… But wasn’t it already?

Google Maps supports subway lines

It seems that Google Maps is becoming stronger, and the latest release shows the subway lines of New York. The colored lines are interactive, and clicking on a station name, you’ll see a bubble that appears beside the name of the line of the station, while other subway lines of the screen disappear, so you will not be confused. Other cities covered in this manner by Google Maps include Paris and Tokyo. Mobile users will be pleased to learn that new subway lines of NYC are also available on Google Maps Mobile.

Google Maps Navigation in beta for mobile phones under Android 2.0

Google has announced a very valuable service: GPS navigation with Google Maps on mobile phones.

For now the service is in beta and is designed for mobile phones equipped with the Android 2.0 operating system.

GPS navigation on Google Maps and features:

  • You enter an address, a restaurant name, a type of restaurant, etc. The GPS tells you the route and tells you where you’re always
  • Instead of typing keyboard instructions, you can request the road by speaking (voice)
  • You can see the traffic conditions
  • Possibility to switch to Street View
  • Car dock mode: support for special car that sits on the dashboard and connects automatically to GPS mode.
