Canon Vixia HF S21 HD camcorder

January 17th, 2010 | Posted in Digital Cameras | 1 Comment »

Canon has updated its line of HD camcorders and one that has caught our attention is the Vixia HF S21. It is a 1080p camcorder with a 10x optical zoom. It includes 64GB of flash memory, but also two SD slots (SDXC). SDXC cards are not yet on the market, but can support up to a maximum capacity of 2TB. When the internal storage arrives at its end, the camcorder will automatically switch to the SD slots – without interruption or visible artifacts! Canon has also added a stabilizing electron image “SuperRange” (zoom mode) that can take pictures zoomed more stable. The HD camcorder records in AVCHD, but it can now convert files in MPEG4, a format more friendly in terms of storage and compatibility (YouTube etc…). This is a great feature. The conversion speed is almost in “real time” as 1 minute of video take 1 minute to convert. And finally, Canon has added a Touch interface replacing the joystick that existed in previous camcorders.

  • 64GB of internal storage, 2 SD slots
  • 1080p recording
  • 1/2.6″ 8.59-megapixel 1080p CMOS sensor
  • Display of 3.5″, 922k pixels
  • Touch and track, face detection (to keep the focus on something)
  • Viewfinder (to save battery)
  • Compatible with Eye-Fi

Canon is one of the first manufacturers to move into the world of compact digital cameras the following message: “The megapixel race is not about anything”. Attentive to the demands of PowerShot G users – and photographers at large – the Nippon brand released its G11, an excellent digital cameras for the professionals who will not or can not burdened with a large SLR. Making a quantum leap in the field of high sensitivity, the G11 has a screen that can also make pictures discreetly. It lacks only the HD video to be perfect. Price: €599.

Sony DSC-TX1 Snowflake digital camera in Japan

December 2nd, 2009 | Posted in Digital Cameras | No Comments »

This winter, Sony offers a Snowflake version of DSC-TX1 compact digital camera. The special edition will be available in Silver, Black and Rose. You will not pay more for the engraving, but Sony will offer it only for the festive season. I like the silver version, but I don’t live in Japan…

If you don’t know the DSC-TX1 (price: $329), it is a 10.2 megapixel compact digital camera that has a 4X optical zoom and a Carl Zeiss lens. At the back there is a large 3-inch LCD display. There’s a ton of features, but some are cool: 10fps burst mode, low light capabilities (for a compact digital camera) and 185 degrees panorama.
