The free office suite, the rival of Microsoft Office, arrives in a new version. OpenOffice.org 3.2 Release Candidate (RC) is available for download for Windows, Mac and Linux.

No major change, but performance gains to launch certain applications. On the official website of the community, Calc and Writer (respectively the spreadsheet and the text editor) are advertised as faster startup. The gain reached 46% and varies with the hardware and software of the computer.

OpenOffice.org also improves support for ODF document formats, a guarantee of interoperability between different office softwares like Google Docs and Office 2007 (through SP2). The list of improvements associated with this new version is released online.

The availability date of the final version of OpenOffice.org 3.2 is not yet announced. The overhaul of the interface should intervene on version 3.3, with the Renaissance Project. The OpenOffice team has also recently released a video explaining the aim of this project.
