It’s the season of Linux distributions. After Ubuntu 9.10, Mandriva 2010, OpenSUSE 11.2, now it’s the time of Fedora 12, supported by Red Hat, which was already available in beta. This new version, called “Constantine”, brings new surprises.

Among them, the Linux 2.6.31 kernel, the KDE 4.3 and Gnome 2.28 desktop environments, replacing Pidgin with Empathy for instant messaging, improved package manager PackageKit, and PulseAudio and NetworkManager (compatibility with IPv6, mobile connections…), better power management and Bluetooth and support enhanced webcams.
Fedora 12 also offers an improved KVM virtualization environment, with a reduced memory consumption, among others. Furthermore, the Grub boot loader now accepts a boot partition for the Ext4 filesystem. Now, the distribution loads as a service called Automatic Bug Reporting Tool (ABRT), which automatically produces a report in the crash of an application.
