Patriot PS-100: 4 efficient and affordable SSD drives

November 21st, 2009 | Posted in Storage | No Comments »

patriot-ps-100-256GBThe Patriot manufacturer has unveiled a new range of SSD drives that can enjoy a high level of performance while being offered at an affordable price.

This new range with the name of PS-100 consists of four 2.5-inch SATA models with capacities of 32, 64, 128 and 256 GB.

Designed for MLC (Multiple Level Cell, 3 bits per cell, 10,000 writing cycles per cell) flash memory, these SSD (Solid State Drive) drives promise data transfer rates relatively comfortable at 210 MB/s for reading and 150MB/s for writing.

The data sheet mentions a consumption of 5.3 watts in operation and 0.5 watts when the disk is not requested, an impact resistance of 1,500G for 0.5 millisecond, vibration resistance of 20G with frequency between 80 and 2,000 Hz and a lifetime exceeding one million hours.

Regarding the prices of these SSD drives, count 105, 240, 365 and 750 euros respectively for the models of 32, 64, 128 and 256 GB. Patriot has apparently not the same definition of the word “affordable”…
