Sarotech CyberNetor C2-US and C4-S NAS

Sarotech has introduced two new NAS (network attached storage) in Korea, the C2-US and C4-S. Both have a cooling system more efficient, and it will improve the endurance of hard drives. The C2-US supports 2 SATA hard drives in RAID 0/1/JBOD configuration, and the C4-S supports RAID 0/1/3/5/10/Clone, including RAID hardware and software solutions. The C2-US is priced at $103, and the C4-S at $287.

Rugged and stylish external hard drives from Samsung

Samsung has announced its line of rugged and stylish external hard drives at CES 2010. You can choose between three sizes: 1.8″, 2.5″ and 3.5″. The external hard drives should be rugged enough to survive to falls and also with spills over. The G2 portable offer capacities ranging from 250GB to 640GB, while the G3 station will offer capacities of 1 to 2TB. A very nice feature of the G3 is that it will extinguish itself when the computer is off and is not in use. Will this be your next portable hard drive?

VIA M’SERV S2100 64-bit Mini Server

VIA unveils its new M’SERV S2100 Mini Server which is specially designed for OEMs and integrators. Operating primarily with its own VIA Nano 64-bit CPU, this model is a small box which includes interesting features such as support for two SATA drives, two slots of RAM and two Ethernet ports. The M’SERV S2100 also has a bootable SSD, three USB 2.0 ports, one 8cm low-noise ball-bearing fan and AES hardware-based for the security.

LG XG1 Chic external hard drive

LG has released in Korea its new line of external hard drives, the XG1 Chic, which is available in 1TB, 1.5TB and 2TB storage capacities. The 3.5-inch external hard drive uses USB 2.0 interface.

Buffalo has introduced its latest NAS, the TeraStation TS-XEL/R5. This Network Attached Storage (NAS) is available in 2TB, 4TB and 6TB capacities and can support up to 4 SATA hard drives in RAID 0, RAID 5, RAID 5 or 10. The NAS has an LCD display, 2 USB 2.0 ports, dual Gigabit Ethernet and can support hot-swapping, Time Machine of Apple and Active Directory Services. The TeraStation TS-XEL/R5 NAS will be launched in Japan this month for a price of $946 (2TB), $1,180 (4TB) and $1,535 (6TB).

LaCie Rikiki external hard drive

Here is the new external hard drive from LaCie, the Rikiki, which loads up to 640GB of storage space in a 2.5-inch drive, all in an aluminum case with 10GB of storage available online at Wuala by LaCie. Price: from €89.90 with capacities of 250GB, 500GB and 640GB.

This NAS measures only 26mm of thickness, the HDLP-S500 is the latest ultra-slim NAS from I-O DATA for the Japanese market. With 500GB of capacity, this NAS supports for open source Samba, iTunes sharing, BitTorrent client and is DLNA certified, allowing it to be seamlessly networked via the built-in Ethernet port with other DLNA enabled devices. The NAS also has a USB interface to connect it to your computer. Price: 20,000 Yen (about $231).

Samsung CF and SD rugged memory cards

Samsung knows that some people have a way of life rather restless, so they have launched a new range of rugged memory cards in the United Kingdom. The CF plus and SD plus cards are airtight, able to stay 24 hours in submersion in seawater. Otherwise, they are resistant to shocks, and data are safe because they are indifferent to the magnets, such as these which found in the home cinema speakers. Samsung said that these rugged memory cards have a lifespan of 10 years. CF cards have a write speed of 45MBps, and 4GB, 8GB and 16GB capacities. The price is not known.

OWC announced a new line of external hard drives and SSD drives

OWC has announced a new line of external hard drives and SSD drives, the Mercury Elite-AL Pro mini. Available in storage capacities from 256GB to 500GB, these 2.5-inch drives have a shock-resistant aluminum enclosure, USB 2.0, FireWire 400/800 and eSATA and provide up to 300MB/s of transfer speeds. Prices: from $139.99 to $819.99.

Pulsar: first SSD from Seagate

Seagate has just unveiled its first 2.5-inch SSD, the Pulsar, declined in 50, 100 and 200GB and compatible SATA 3Gb/s, offering speeds of reading and writing respectively at 240MB/s and 220MB/s. In terms of durability, the manufacturer announced an average of 5 years.
